1.At this time, Beckett Grading Services accepts and grades most licensed cards up to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Additional fees will apply to items larger then 3x5. Please note that cards showing evidence of counterfeiting, tampering, or restoration will be charged the full amount according to the service option selected. By not checking either of the “Authentic” boxes on the front of the submission form, your cards will be given a numeric grade if the cards are deemed to be gradable by BGS standards. Usual grading fees apply. Please refer to www.beckett.com/grading for updated information.

2.All submissions must be addressed to Beckett Grading Services. Improperly addressed shipments are not subject to turnaround time selected. Cards should be sent in oversized (3.25" X 5") semi-rigid holders (such as a Card Saver I). “Penny sleeves” should also be used in conjunction with the oversized semi-rigid holders. BGS will not be responsible for any damages incurred by the use of other holders.

3.All card submissions must be accompanied by a Beckett-issued submission form. All other forms, including handwritten copies, are null and void.

4.Please PRINT your name and account number (if you have one) in the upper right corner of the form. If you do not have an account number, one will be assigned to you.

6.Please be sure to notate your return shipping method of choice in the 'SHIP VIA' box. Standard shipping will be via FedEx Ground unless otherwise marked. Feel free to use your existing FedEx or UPS account # if you have one. BGS reserves the right to change carriers without notice unless a shipping account is being used.

7.List all cards you are submitting with quantity, year of issue, set name or company (please use standard Beckett terminology when possible), card number, card/player name, and your declared value per lot. You may use additional forms to list more cards, but please only choose one service level per submission form.

8.Select 'Grading Service' level. Check one level only. (See top of rules section for more details). Please separate cards based on submission levels and requirements.

9.To determine amount owed, use the 'Calculating $ to be paid to BGS' area. Total the number of cards submitted and multiply by the price per card for the grading service you select. Figure return postage and insurance using appropriate tables. Add 8.25% Sales Tax to the cost of service and shipping if you are a Texas resident only, unless the cards are for re-sale and you provide us with a valid re-sale tax ID number.

examined or processed until payment is made in full. Don't forget the expiration date, security code, and signature. All payments must be in U.S. funds. Returned checks will be assessed a $30.00 fee.

11.Be sure to include return insurance and ship to address on top of submission form. Send to the attention of 'Beckett Grading Services. Beckett will not be responsible for damages on packages sent for grading so insurance and tracking is recommended. Owner's declared value is used for determining insurance cost of the return shipment and the maximum amount that can be claimed for damage or loss in shipment for any card or cards. If a claim is necessary at any point, the value of each card will be based upon the actual market value not to exceed the insured value the customer assigned to the card.

International Customers

International customers have two options. We can send the shipment to a U.S. location and the customer can arrange shipment from there. To do this, use the shipping tables above to calculate the shipping cost and include payment with the service fee. Be sure to provide a U.S. destination address on the submission form. The other option is to receive the shipment USPS Global Express. Customers are liable for the cost on any applicable customs, duties and taxes. Failure to abide by these guidelines may result in nondelivery of cards and/or penalty fees charged back to the customers. These fees can be substantial and we encourage you to investigate the costs before sending the submission. Please indicate which of these options you prefer on the shipping line (line 6) on the front of the submission form.

Guidelines on Filling in Beckett Grading

Upon deciding to have non-gaming cards graded, the Beckett Grading form is a critical step in the process. This form serves as your official request for service, indicating your personal details, the cards to be graded, and your chosen service level. It's important to fill out this form accurately to ensure your cards are graded according to your expectations. Below are step-by-step instructions to guide you through filling out the Beckett Grading form.

  1. Under "SHIP TO," mark whether the address is Residential or Business.
  2. Choose your shipping preference under "SHIP VIA BECKETT USE ONLY" by circling one of the listed options: Priority Overnight, 2 Day, Express Saver, Ground, or International Shipping.
  3. Complete the "Name," "Address," "City," "State," "Zip," and "Phone" fields with your shipping information for return of the graded cards.
  4. Enter your "E-mail" to receive updates and notifications regarding your submission.
  5. If applicable, provide your "My FedEx Account #" for shipping purposes.
  6. Under the section starting with "Sport," list each card you are submitting with its corresponding information: Qty (Quantity), Year, SET NAME, CARD/PLAYER NAME, and Declared Value.
  7. If you are submitting cards for a service that determines if they are altered but still authentic, mark the appropriate checkbox to indicate your preference for numeric grading or authentication only.
  8. Calculate your total fee based on the number of cards, the grading fee per card, and any additional charges such as oversized item surcharge or return insurance. Fill out the "Calculating $ to be paid to BGS" section accordingly.
  9. Check the appropriate payment method box and fill out your payment information in the "Payment Options" section.
  10. Sign and date the bottom of the form to indicate you agree with the BGS terms and conditions listed on www.beckett.com/grading.
  11. Remember to review the rules and instructions provided on the reverse of the form for any additional requirements or clarifications.

Once the form is filled out and reviewed for accuracy, include it with your card submission. Ensure that the cards are packed securely and in accordance with any recommendations provided by Beckett Grading Services to prevent damage during shipping. Upon receipt, Beckett will process your submission, and you'll be one step closer to having your cards professionally graded.

The Beckett Grading form is a document used by individuals wishing to submit non-gaming trading cards (such as sports cards) for grading by Beckett Grading Services (BGS). This service evaluates the condition of cards and assigns them a grade, which can affect the card's value. Any collector looking to have their cards graded, either for personal interest or before selling, should use this form.

How can I submit my cards for grading?

There are several steps involved in submitting your cards for grading with Beckett:

  1. Complete the Beckett Grading form with your personal details and information about the cards you are submitting, including quantity, year, set name, card number, and card/player name.
  2. Choose your shipping method and indicate it on the form, alongside the preferred return shipping method.
  3. Select the grading service level you desire, based on how quickly you want the cards returned and whether you want subgrades provided.
  4. Calculate the total cost based on the number of cards, the grading fee per card, any additional fees for oversized items or certified autographs, return postage and insurance, and sales tax if applicable. Remember, all payments must be in U.S. funds.
  5. Mail your cards along with the completed form and the full payment to Beckett's designated address, ensuring your package is properly insured since Beckett is not responsible for damages in transit.

What fees are associated with Beckett Grading Services?

Fees for Beckett Grading Services are structured based on several factors:

  • Grading Fee Per Card: Depends on the service level chosen (e.g., Economy, Standard, Express, Premium).
  • Oversized Item Surcharge: Additional fees for items larger than 3x5 inches.
  • Return Insurance: Based on the declared value of the shipment.
  • Return Postage: Calculated based on the number of cards, chosen shipping method, and destination.
  • Sales Tax: Applicable for Texas residents unless a valid resale tax ID number is provided.

Specific costs including the grading fee per card, autograph certification fee, and oversized item surcharge are detailed on the form. Remember to add these costs together, along with return postage and insurance, to calculate the total amount due.

What happens if a submitted card is deemed altered?

Beckett Grading takes the authenticity of cards seriously. If a card submitted for grading is found to be altered in any way (e.g., trimmed, recolored), Beckett offers two options:

  • If you have checked the box indicating your cards should receive a numeric grade when possible, altered cards will instead be sealed and authenticated in a standard Beckett Authentic/Altered case without receiving a numeric grade.
  • If you have chosen for your cards to only be authenticated, they will be placed into a Beckett holder and labeled as “Authentic” without receiving a numeric grade, assuming they are deemed to be genuine.

In both scenarios, standard grading fees will apply, underscoring the importance of carefully reviewing your cards before submission to ensure they are free of alterations.

Common mistakes

When completing the Beckett Grading form, particularly for non-gaming cards, collectors and first-time submitters often encounter pitfalls that can lead to delays in processing or additional, unexpected fees. By recognizing these common mistakes in advance, individuals can ensure a smoother submission process. Herein are four prevalent errors that should be avoided:

  1. Incorrect or Incomplete Shipping Information: The address and shipping preferences are critical components of the Beckett Grading form. A mistake many people make is not specifying whether their return shipment should go to a residential or business address. Further complicating matters, some fail to indicate their shipping method of choice clearly in the 'SHIP VIA' box. Selecting the most appropriate and cost-effective shipping option while ensuring the form matches your desired return method minimizes the risk of delivery issues or unforeseen expenses.

  2. Not Using Beckett-Specific Terminology: On the section of the form where submitters need to list all cards being sent in, it's paramount to use standard Beckett terminology for the year of issue, set name or company, and card/player name. This mistake is often overlooked but can lead to misunderstandings regarding what exactly is being submitted, potentially affecting the grading process. Ensuring clarity and consistency with Beckett's own language facilitates a more streamlined and accurate grading service.

  3. Miscalculating Payment: Determining the correct amount owed involves several steps, including totaling the number of cards submitted, multiplying by the price per card, adding fees for any oversized items or certified autographs, and accounting for return postage and insurance. Texas residents must also remember to add sales tax. Overlooking any of these steps or misapplying the pricing structure can result in underpayment or overpayment. Accuracy in this calculation is essential to avoid delays or the need for additional payments.

  4. Omitting Signature and Date: The bottom section of the form requires a signature to confirm that the submitter agrees to the terms and conditions and has provided accurate information. Additionally, the date of submission must be included. These components are frequently missed but are crucial for Beckett to process the submission. The signature verifies the submitter's acknowledgement of the grading service's procedures, while the date helps track the submission through Beckett's system.

A careful review of the Beckett Grading form against these common errors can significantly enhance the submission experience. Paying attention to the details ensures that your cards are graded in a timely and efficient manner, allowing you to enjoy your collecting hobby with minimal disruptions.

Documents used along the form

Complementing the Beckett Grading form, which is essential for submitting non-gaming cards for grading, several other forms and documents are frequently utilized throughout the process to ensure accuracy, authentication, and protection of your collectibles. From submission to return, each document plays a critical role in the grading journey.

  1. Card Submission Checklist: This document outlines the steps and requirements for preparing your cards for submission, helping to avoid common errors that could delay the grading process.
  2. Payment Form: A detailed form to accompany your payment, specifying the method (e.g., credit card, check) and amount, ensuring accurate and timely processing of your grading fees.
  3. Service Level Agreement (SLA): Details the terms of service, including expected turnaround times, grading fees, and any conditions or exclusions, setting clear expectations for both parties.
  4. Return Shipping Form: Specifies your preferred method of return shipping and provides Beckett with all necessary information to ensure the safe and prompt delivery of your graded cards.
  5. Autograph Authentication Form: For submissions that include autographed cards, this form is necessary for verifying the authenticity of signatures, an essential step for collectors of signed memorabilia.
  6. Insurance Coverage Form: Offers options for insuring your submission during shipping and handling, protecting your investment from loss or damage.
  7. Declaration of Value Form: A document where you declare the value of each card being submitted, which is crucial for insurance and in case of any claims.
  8. Condition Disclosure Form: For disclosing any known conditions that might affect the grading of the card, such as previous restoration work or known defects.
  9. Customer Satisfaction Survey: Although not always used in conjunction with the submission, this document is often sent post-service to gather feedback on the customer's experience with Beckett Grading Services.

Together, these forms and documents streamline the submission process, ensuring each card is accurately graded, authenticated, and safely returned. They not only facilitate a smoother transaction but also enhance the overall customer experience by providing transparency, security, and confidence in the grading service provided.

Dos and Don'ts

When submitting your collectible cards for grading through Beckett Grading Services, there are several do's and don'ts that you should be aware of to ensure your submission goes smoothly. Here are eight tips to help you with the process:

  • Do ensure your cards fit the size criteria. Beckett accepts and grades most licensed cards up to 8.5 inches by 11 inches. Any items larger than 3x5 will attract additional fees.
  • Don't send your cards in inadequate protection. Use semi-rigid holders, preferably in the size 3.25" X 5", and "penny sleeves" for added protection.
  • Do use the official Beckett submission form. Submissions must be accompanied by this form, and handwritten or non-Beckett forms are not accepted.
  • Do print your name and account number clearly on the submission form. If you're a first-time submitter, an account number will be assigned to you.
  • Don't forget to specify your return shipping method in the 'SHIP VIA' box. Beckett provides various shipping options but also allows you to use your FedEx or UPS account.
  • Do meticulously list all cards you are submitting. Include quantity, year, set name, card number, and declared value per card to avoid any discrepancies.
  • Don't mix service levels in one submission form. If you're sending cards that require different levels of service, you'll need to fill out separate forms for each level.
  • Do calculate the total cost correctly. Take into account the number of cards, grading fee, return insurance, return postage, any oversized item surcharges, and sales tax if applicable (for Texas residents).

Following these guidelines will help ensure your card grading process is expedited and free of errors. Remember, it's not just about getting your cards graded; it's about ensuring they are assessed accurately and returned to you safely.

Misconceptions

When dealing with Beckett Grading Services (BGS) for your card grading needs, it's crucial to understand what the process involves thoroughly. However, there is a variety of misconceptions that can create confusion. Below, we address six common mistakes people make about the Beckett Grading form and shed light on the actual processes and requirements.

  • Misconception 1: Any form can be used to submit cards for grading.
  • Only the official Beckett-issued submission form is accepted for card submissions. Using a handwritten copy or any other form will render your submission void.

  • Misconception 2: It’s possible to submit cards without a payment.
  • Cards must be accompanied by full payment based on the grading service selected. Submission without payment will prevent your cards from being graded.

  • Misconception 3: You don’t need to declare the value of your cards.
  • Declaring the value of each card or lot is mandatory for insurance during return shipping. This declared value is utilized to determine insurance costs and the maximum claimable amount in case of loss or damage.

  • Misconception 4: Beckett Grading will adjust the declared value to match market prices automatically.
  • The owner’s declared value is used for insurance purposes only. If a claim is necessary, each card’s value is based on the actual market value, not exceeding the insured value assigned by the customer.

  • Misconception 5: Oversized cards do not incur additional fees.
  • Additional fees apply for items larger than 3x5 inches. This surcharge is necessary due to the extra handling and storage requirements for larger items.

  • Misconception 6: Texas residents are not subject to sales tax on their submissions.
  • Texas residents must add an 8.25% sales tax to their grading service and shipping costs unless the cards are for resale and a valid resale tax ID number is provided.

By understanding these key points, collectors can ensure their submissions are processed smoothly and avoid any unexpected issues. Always refer to the official Beckett website for the most current information and guidelines regarding card grading submissions.
